About Bobbie Burks, PhD

Through my years as a lay and professional counselor, I noticed that people could rationally see that they had the power to change their lives, but few believed in their actual capacity to do it,” says Bobbie. In sessions, clients could consciously embrace Philippians 4:13 — “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” — but found the practice of that amount of faith was difficult after being clouded by life issues and circumstances. When the opportunity arose to set the foundation for solo practice, Bobbie chose that verse as the cornerstone of her new endeavor.

“One of my main goals is to help people rediscover the power that comes through their faith and attachment to God. We get kicked by life — by the choices of others and ourselves — and then feel hopeless about being able to change our direction and have more positive outcomes. If we have a personal relationship through Christ with the one true Living God, we have all the power we need. We just have to get over ourselves and our fear to tap into it.”

Philippians 4:13 is on the wall of the Center, dominating the reception area of the Center and setting the tone for counseling efforts for faith-based clients. The Center offers a high-touch, personal, and very private venue at which those who seek growth can pursue that goal with safety and comfort. Great care has been taken to create an environment of relaxation and encouragement, with ADA-compliant facilities, a refreshment area, and a group/family room complete with “Harvey” the punching bag, and stress reduction education equipment.

Bobbie is a trained cognitive-behavioral psychotherapist who also has an extensive background in numerous therapeutic modalities and techniques. Prayer is offered to clients at the end of each session but never forced upon them. From depression to anxiety…behavioral addictions to abuse recovery and many other areas of need, hope, and healing may be found at 4:13 Center for Change.
